Halal airline meals: the MOML guide
Which airlines feed you halal by default, which need a special-meal request, and how the IATA MOML code actually works — so the wrong meal never lands on your tray table.
On Emirates, Qatar Airways, Etihad, Saudia, Royal Brunei, Royal Jordanian, Malaysia Airlines and Garuda Indonesia every meal is halal as standard — nothing to request. On Western carriers you must pre-order a MOML halal meal, typically 24–48 hours before departure. Codes and deadlines follow.

What is a MOML meal?
MOML is the IATA special-meal code for a Muslim Meal: the recipe excludes pork, pork derivatives and alcohol, and any meat is halal-sourced. It sits alongside codes like VGML (vegan) and KSML (kosher) in every airline's special-meal system. One honest caveat: a MOML guarantees the recipe, not the certification chain — airlines rarely publish which body audits each caterer. What if my MOML special meal is not loaded?
Special meals occasionally fail to load. Tell the crew immediately — the usual fallbacks are the vegetarian or vegan special meals, which avoid the meat-certification question. On long sectors where halal is essential, eating before boarding removes the risk entirely.
